Picked up my first pizza from Grumpys the other day. I’ve been a fan of the plain cheese pizza since an old Italian pizzamaker clued me in to them.
Me: What kind of pizza do you make for yourself?
Pizzamaker: I like the cheese pie. My mother made the cheese pie, and her mother made the cheese pie. The cheese pie is good, it shows what the pizza maker can do.
Good enough for me.
So I ordered the 12″ Medium cheese pie at Grumpys. It came out nice and deeply toasted the way I like it. I’ll try the thin crust option next time. The breadsticks were plentiful and quite nice. I see the Cheesy Sticks option and I’ll end up trying that, too.
A final bit of silliness. I’ve always liked doing the math to see how various pizza slices are priced. Grumpys has the most rational and precise pricing I’ve seen. Almost identical price per square inch of pizza. Somebody was paying attention!
|Sq in. / $||$0.060||$0.057||$0.058||$0.057|
|Sq in. / $||$0.090||$0.084||$0.083||$0.080|
|Special 2×16″, 1 topping|
|Sq in. / $||$0.057|
Very little variation across sizes. It’s all pretty even, but the Special (2×16″ 1-topping pies) at 5.7 cents per square inch of pizza appears to be the best value. 🙂 Yes, I am a geek.
